So I recently went on a holiday trip with my hubby when our boy was around 10.5 months old. My mom kindly agreed to take care of the baby for that week. Frankly speaking, when I booked the trip months before, I didn’t know that it would be so difficult to leave our little darling behind *sob*. But on hindsight, I am really glad that we went for the much-needed break – my first uninterrupted 8 hours of beauty sleep in many months!
We went to Palau to scuba dive, and the diving there was simply awesome! That aside, it gave us the opportunity to rekindle the romance that somehow disappeared when the baby came along. To be honest, my relationship with the hubby was not at its best over the past few months. I guess this is quite normal, given that we are first-time parents, and having to work and take care of the baby (and to juggle part-time studies for the mister) would have strained any relationship. We just didn’t have the time for each other, and being sleep-deprived doesn’t make things any better.
I first met my husband on a scuba-diving trip back in the school days, and to go diving together again made me realise how cool he is underwater (haha!). I always feel very safe diving with him as he is a very experienced divemaster. That was probably one of the reasons I fell in love with him in the first place Both of us enjoy some alcohol from time to time, but now I can only indulge very occasionally as I am still nursing my boy. So to be able to drink during the trip was an added bonus (I was pumping and dumping anyway)!
Both of us were actually quite tired throughout the entire trip, even though we were only making 2 dives per day. We went to bed very early, like 8pm or 9pm, and attributed it to the accumulated tiredness over the past months. Needless to say, we were missing our boy like crazy, and I whatapps my mom every single day to see how he was doing. According to my mom, baby was a little difficult for the first 1 or 2 days, but was pretty good for the remaining week. I think we missed him more than he missed us.
Well, we have already planned the next overseas trip for 2015, and we will be bringing him along this time! In the meantime, I have lots of research to do on the tips on travelling with a baby. Do share with me your experience on travelling with a baby
